Our story

In 2020 amidst COVID, the torch was passed to the new generation with unyielding passion for making people smile through his culinary creations. Although Rick's journey into the baking world was unexpected, he was wholeheartedly welcomed into the Sky River Bakery family under the guidance of the original owners.
The transition was seamless, and Rick and his team, along with his dedicated team, continued to uphold the bakery's traditions while also adding their unique touch to the menu. The combination of the old and the new, the traditional and the innovative, results in a gastronomical experience that has customers coming back for more.
Sky River Bakery is more than just a bakery - we are a testament to the magic that happens when passion meets purpose. We are proud to serve the Pacific Northwest community and show them the difference that a from-scratch bakery can make. As we continue to grow and evolve, our commitment remains the same - to bake with love, serve with a smile, and create sweet memories one pastry at a time. We look forward to welcoming you into our bakery family.

Our Mission, Evolved
We’ve always believed in the power of baking to bring people together. Now that the bakery doors may be closed, that mission is expanding. We’re transforming Sky River’s most-loved recipes—from Those Pink Cookies to gooey bars and classic homestyle treats—into a cookbook that shares our dough-sprinkled legacy far beyond Main Street.
Why This Book Matters
This cookbook is more than a collection of recipes. It’s a tribute to the joy, inclusivity, and community Sky River stood for. Whether you’re from Monroe or a corner of the world we’ve never seen, we want these pages to feel like home—one sweet memory at a time.

Welcome to Sky River Bakery, a beloved staple of Monroe since 1987. The seeds of our business were sown over three decades ago by the Andrew Abt & Mary Thorgersen. Their love for baking and commitment to the Monroe community shaped Sky River Bakery into a cherished local institution.
